Single Hop Pils (Oktawia)
Collaboration with Browar Widawa
One day a longtime friend of the brewery reached out and asked if we would be interested in making a beer with Wojtek, head brewer of Widawa from Chrząstawa Mała, Poland. We talked via Facebook for a while and decided to make a Pils showcasing a Polish hop, never before used in North America, called Oktawia, which is pronounced like Batavia, but with an octopus before it. At the beginning of July, Wojtek came to Buffalo. He brought us some Oktawia, we hung out, brewed, got to know each other & rode the Maid of the Mist.
The beer is a crispy pils with a clean malt character and some nice fruity notes from the hops. The hops have some spiciness as well as a bit of orange or sweeter citrus. The beer finishes dry and clean, with a solid bitterness.
Get it while you can – we literally can’t get these hops so this is a one time release.
